“No Exoneration”

“No Exoneration”

As the Robert Mueller report comes to its conclusion with Mr. Mueller’s personal testimony to Congress, we are able to finally say one thing for sure.  The President called Trump is not exonerated by Robert Mueller’s report.  Though hamstrung in his testimony by Trump’s handpicked, in the pocket Attorney General, William Barr, Mueller was able to make one clear statement:  “I was not able to exonerate Mr. Trump of obstruction of justice.”  While abundantly clear from the written testimony, it is even more dramatic to hear these words from Robert Mueller’s mouth.  Mr. Mueller added further that the interference of the Russian government on Mr. Trump’s behalf was a most serious challenge to our democracy:

“Over the course of my career I have seen a number of challenges to our democracy.  The Russian’s government’s effort to interfere in our election is among the most serious,” he said. (Robert Mueller, testimony before Congress, July 24, 2019 – quoted in BBC Internet News).

We can say of this we are most certain.  Mr. Trump would not have been elected President of the United States without the help of the Russians meddling in our election process.  So former President of the United States, Jimmy Carter, is correct.  Mr. Trump is an illegitimate president!

In times before great amounts of money influenced our political landscape and before the Republican party forsook the Lincoln heritage for graft, we might have had a free election process and we might have had a consensus among elected representatives of both Houses of Congress that this current resident of the White House should never have been there in the first place.  This “not my President -President” is a true anomaly of our democratic process.  Never before has an illegitimate President occupied the sacred office of this White House.

It is profoundly disturbing that elected representatives of the people, almost one entire party with a few notable exceptions protect this criminal occupying the White House.  Obviously, their interests in retaining power supersede the oath of allegiance to the citizens of the United States of America.  The Republican party, in their effort to stymie the truth about this President have compromised themselves in ways beyond the pale of what has been observed previously in this nation.  It is bad enough that they have sold their soul to the devil for power and graft, but to compromise their basic oath of allegiance to this nation by obscuring the truth of what is before them and allowing no due process to take place to remove this man from office is one of the saddest chapters ever to occur in the history of this great nation.

The removal of hope from the people and the determination of the Republican party to protect this man from prosecution for his criminal, unpatriotic and ungodly activities strips away any semblance of fairness, justice and the belief that no man or woman exists above the law.  If this bedrock belief in the democratic process is overcome, there is no democracy.  We can no longer say the law applies fairly to everyone, i.e. everyone except the President of the United States.

If we shred our hope and our faith in due process and the belief in justice for every man, woman and child, then we destroy ourselves and our democracy.  Either our laws apply to every person or they apply to no one!  I am truly saddened to say this may be one of the worst days for our democracy.  Nothing has been accomplished to bring closure to this debacle of a Presidency.  There is no hope of any resolution.  A divided country remains.  As long as this President remains in office, the divisions in our democracy will worsen, grow deeper and become further away from any hope of a healing process.  This President may indeed break our democracy.  He destroys everything he touches.  He strips away hope from the immigrants seeking a better life.  His racist taunts illustrate the deep divisions among us, over race, class, wealth and education.  He goes through the motions of the Presidency, but he has no heart, no compassion, and no concern for the common people.  He destroy our hope, he pollutes our national consciousness; he radicalizes those who already are radicalized.  He destroys our faith in the democratic process.  He moves our nation closer to class divisions, anarchy and breakdown of government.  He does all of this in his narcissistic plan to remain in power for another 4 year term of office.  May God help us!  May God help us all!

“O God our Father and our Lord Jesus Christ:  You alone know the end and the beginning.  You alone hold the future of us, our land and our nation called the United States of America in the palm of your hand.  You alone are able to heal us in this time of terrible division among us all.  You alone have the power to given us hope once again in your justice, your truth, your way of righteousness and peace.  We no longer look to nor believe in the power of this government to help us.  Our government and our representatives have become corrupt, full of graft, of greed, of lust for power and wickedness.  We pray for these men and women, some of whom still believe in the way of righteousness, of truth and of good government, of the people, by the people and for the people.  We pray for each one and for ourselves.

O God, our Savior, please raise up among us those who can lead us into the way of truth, goodness, righteousness and peace.  Heal our divisions of class, race, station in life and power politics.  Let us all rise together or all fall together.  We know there is no God but thee!  Therefore, we appeal to you for help in our time of trouble.  We pray for our President, this illegitimate little man who boasts of such pride in himself—let another take his place.  Grant that we might see a man or woman who deserves to be in this office, who will guide us as one nation under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for all!  Grant that we may become a place of refuge and healing for the immigrant fleeing poverty, injustice and war.  Grant that we may become a haven of rest for the weary, that we may defend the rights of the poor and fatherless, the homeless and those who have no families or place to lay down their heads.

Grant, O God, that we all may serve you well in this life and so rejoice in our place with you and those who love you in heaven.  Turn back wickedness, unrighteousness, criminality and greed!  Help us to rejoice when truth and righteousness prevails!  In the words of the prophet Amos, “Let justice roll down like water and righteousness as an overflowing stream!”(Amos 5:24)  In your mercy, grant us mercy.  Heal us from within.  Restore within us justice, hope, love of the truth and a desire to do good to all men, women and children of every land and nation.  In Jesus Christ your Holy Son and our Redeemer, heal us once again.  Make us glad with the joy of your salvation.  Glorify your name and we will glorify Thee!  For we pray this prayer in the name of Jesus Christ, the Righteous One, risen from the dead to make us holy, in communion and faith in Him and in his kingdom, world without end.  Amen and Amen.”

Bill Wilson, servant of God by God’s grace and mercy.

“Amen!  We praise you alone, Lord Jesus Christ!” There is no God but thee! In the name of God our Father, Christ the Son and the Blessed Holy Spirit!  Amen.”
