A Meditation Upon Our Nation

President Trump and Melania tested positive ( +) yesterday for Covid-19. Hope Hicks, his personal assistant tested positive (+) a few days earlier. Some say the President knew she was positive but did rallies anyway, even though he had been exposed. In any case, he developed fever, cough, and upper respiratory congestion. Son Eric Trump said in 40+ years he had never seen his dad so sick. The President is now at Walter Reed Hospital in isolation. He walked to helicopter (Marine One) to show he was still in charge (for world audience). Commentators says his “NO MASK” attitude and practice made this inevitable. When the President gets sick, this is a crisis of government. These same commentators contrasted this President with Vladimir Putin in Russia who requires visitors to undergo a two week isolation quarantine before any visitor can see him in person. He works from home and has not taken any trips since January, 2020. So, should we pray for Trump to be like Putin? God forbid!
The numbers of White House officials and Republican leadership who are testing positive is exploding. Many top echelon Republicans are being tested, all who came into close proximity to the President, the debate prep team (Chris Christie, former governor of New Jersey tested positive (+), Lindsey Graham, chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee (-), Senator Thom Tillis (+) on the judiciary committee, nominee Amy Coney Barrett (-), Mitch McConnell (-), and the list goes on. McConnell plans to move forward on confirmation hearings for Amy Coney Barrett beginning October 12. Did any of the participants at the White House wear a mask when presenting the nominee at the various ceremonies and receptions? Doubtful, we don’t know.
This all seems like a prefect storm! Former Vice-President Joe Biden tested negative following the first debate. Trump touted his lack of a mask. He belittles Biden who wears one always, except at debate. Trump talked incessantly during the debate. Was his goal to fill the room with the particles of virus? Or did he presume the virus would not affect him anyway? His family members also removed their masks during the debate. It is like a plague has descended upon the Republican Party, but really all of us. I was tested yesterday for the virus also, due to a positive (+) contact.
Hopefully, these events will serve as a “wake up call” for our nation, for President Trump, the Republican leadership and party, Trump’s supporters, the Proud Boys White Racist Group and everyone else! This “super spreader event” in the White House, in the Rose Garden and in the Debate floor should inform us all about stupidity, hubris and lack of conscience for others —for our fellow men, women and children!
Surely, we are beginning to know, 9 months into this pandemic WE ARE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER!!! I believe GOD IS TRYING TO HELP US! I hope we can hear God’s clarion call. OUR GOD IS NOT SILENT! Even if God tarries long, HE WILL ALWAYS ARRIVE IN TIME TO HELP US!!!
So, what is the summary of these matters? The summary of these matters is that we have no summary. We do not yet know the long- term implications of this situation, nor of all these converging events.
Yesterday, around 3 AM, I awoke praying for President Donald Trump, in the Holy Spirit of Jesus Christ. In my spirit, I saw him being enveloped in something like a soft pancake (layering), wrapped up inside he became smaller and smaller with less influence, so after a time he could not be found, nor even seen. I wondered at the meaning of the vision, or ‘word’ from my Lord Jesus Christ.
I had been praying for weeks and months for our God in Christ to stop or to limit his poisoning of the climate of our nation, for him to stop his vile comments on racism, his overt promotion of white supremacy and his lack of empathy for others. I felt the Presidential Debate showed his plain desire not to serve our nation, but only to dominate it. He treated Joe Biden just like he did Hillary Clinton, glaring at her as she spoke to the nation. “Shut up, man!” will be the main comment remembered from this Presidential debate. Many consider this spectacle a new low for the history of our nation’s democracy.
I have said publicly and privately, in my journal, in my blog and in prayer to the Lord Jesus that this man Donald Trump is not fit to be our President. I have never endorsed him, nor have I accepted his leadership, even from the beginning. He is not my President. My allegiance is to the democratic process of this nation. I still recognize President Barak Obama, now retired, as the true leader of the Free World.
It is appalling, sad and down-right sorrowful for what has occurred in the nation under Trump’s leadership. “Are we better off that we were four years ago?” candidate Ronald Reagan asked the nation in 1980. The answer is a RESOUNDING NO!!! We are more divided as a nation, less influential on the world stage, more diminished in influence and power, less wealthy, with fewer jobs, more homelessness, increasing poverty, except for the rich who have benefitted from this Pandemic crisis. Trump and the Republicans have robbed the average taxpayer though new laws to enrich the rich and the very rich! Everyone else does without. For 18 years, Trump as businessman has gamed the tax system, paying only $750 in real money for this whole period, less than a worker at McDonalds or an office secretary. And the real question is this: “To whom or what entity does Trump owe $400 million?” We still don’t know as the public taxpayer and American citizen. This is an issue of national security. Does Putin or any of his allies have influence over this President? These are all important questions.
And what about Gerrymandering by Republicans to prevent a free and fair election? What about Republican Texas governor Greg Abbott limiting drop off sites for mail in ballots for up to 2 million Texans, to only allow one drop-off site? This Texas county has 2 million inhabitants. Who can hope to count the mail in ballots for this site in a timely manner? Governor Abbott touts eliminating voter fraud, but in truth he is trying to keep Texas Republican, despite its changing demographics. Do the Republicans think all citizens are stupid like cattle? Do they really think they can corral the voters in this country to keep themselves in power? NO!!! NO!!! A thousand times NO!!!
The old white crony system is breaking apart. It is rapidly becoming obsolete in this multi-cultural nation. This election is the last gasp of a dying elephant who is becoming less and less relevant to this democratic people! Good Riddance!!! May this Trump infested party never be re-elected again! Let the real Republicans re-emerge from their hiding place and let them take back the party they used to represent!
It this not a time for healing divisions, rebuilding bridges across political divides? It is not time we begin to speak to one another instead of screaming at each other? Could we learn to appreciate each other’s varying points of view? Could we begin to view politics as a mosaic of everyone’s concerns, A RICH TAPESTRY OF MULTI-COLORS YET INTERWOVEN THREADS?
Are we so full of hubris as to think we are not all in this together and that each individual person is a gift to us all? May God open our eyes to see the treasure of us in us, among us! May our God in Jesus Christ who loves everyone equally and without regards to origin, color of skin, or economic means, male or female or somewhere in-between help us. We are the problem and the solution. We will never do this alone! We cannot! We should not!
