“The Tainted Witness of the Church”

Since allying itself with the former president and presumably 2024 presidential candidate, the conservative evangelical church has compromised its witness and core Christian values, having allied itself in a Faustian compromise to achieve its own political ends.  Jesus reminds us of such a temptation to expediency, when he was himself tempted by Satan, who said, “All this (the kingdoms of the world) I will give you,” he said, “if you will kneel down and worship me.”(The Gospel of Matthew 4:9).  And Jesus replied:

                “Get thee hence, Satan, for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shall thou serve.” (Matthew 4:10).

It is quite remarkable to me that the church who I grew to love in college has so quickly forsaken its birthright to the kingdom of God, having sold its soul for a bowl of soup labeled political expediency, conservative Supreme Court justices and so called “family values,” endorsing and praising a corrupt politician, a law breaker, a betrayer of the nation’s secrets, a liar who believes himself above the law, whose only motivation is power, money and hungry politics, consuming all who come around him in order to satisfy his wanton lusts and desire for glory and power.

Where is Jesus in all this? He is no longer there, but Satan has gained great power over the church’s witness of and for Jesus!  Where is the concern for the lost, the sick, the infirmed, the dying?  Who will hear this tainted witness without themselves becoming tainted?  The love of God in Christ has been replaced by the love for money, wealth and power!  Under the guise of “saving the unborn child,” this conservative religion cares nothing about the children, but only what the guise of “saving the unborn” can provide for their religion of power.  Racism, white supremacy in the guise of a new religion of the state gets mixed with what use to be true compassion and produces a new Baalism of corruption.  This church is tainted by its allegiance with a corrupt politician and is therefore compromised from any witness for Jesus in this age!

Who will drink the tainted Kool aid?  Only those who have lost their soul to the devil. 

Let us as the confessing church of Jesus Christ raise the alarm, sound the trumpet from the walls and pray for those who are dying within.  The enemy of our souls is upon us!  Who will stand with Christ and turn away this corrupting evil to espouse the good?  Who is on the Lord’s side?  Who will rally to his call?

“O Lord Jesus Christ,

You alone know the hearts of all men, women and children.  You have loved us all!  In your mercy, show us mercy.  In our day expose the evil doer, break him down from his perch of power where he promotes the idea of conspiracy against him, saying the election he lost was not lost, who even to this day clings to the dreams of uninterrupted power, who has already once attempted to overthrow the legitimacy of the government of the United States of America, and except for your grace and the witness of your servant Michael Pence, would have overthrown us all.  Lord, mark this man as the instrument of sedition and all those who attempted to serve him in this seditious act.  Remember them before Heavenly Council and prevent them from obtaining legitimacy in any future election.  Convict all evildoers of their evil deeds.  Let the court of this nation and human opinion see the whole truth and nothing but the truth, so help us Almighty God!  In your remembrance of your church, the church of Jesus Christ for whom Christ died, remember O Lord God and Savior or all humankind, remember to judge, purge, cleanse and forgive our sins.  Cleanse all evil and the taint and smell of evil from us!  Let us once again worship, love and serve you without fear, rejoicing in You, Lord Jesus, our only God and Savior, Redeemer of us all!  Remember us this day and every day, Lord Jesus Christ, God of God, Light of Light, Very God of Very God, begotten not made, who for our sakes became a human being so that you might suffer and die on the cross of Calvary for us all, that we in you, Lord Jesus Christ might be saved.

Save us, Lord Jesus!  Save us from our sins and from the unholy gospel infecting our churches, in Jesus’ holy name.  Amen.

To our Lord and only blessed God be all praise, glory, honor and blessing, both now and forevermore.  Amen.
